Reverend Jeremiah Wright, former pastor of President Barack Obama, will be the keynote speaker for the Carter Tabernacle CME Church‘s annual homecoming celebration on January 10th 2010.
Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright, a firebrand and controversial pastor, who has been known to rally many but offend others, could have derailed then Senator Barack Obama’s campaign for the democratic nomination and subsequent run for the U.S. presidency with his “inflamatory rhetoric”, before Obama officially denounced the pastor in 2008.
Wright has been known to make assertions which include saying that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own “terriorism” and according to then Senator Obama, “a bunch of rants that aren’t grounded in the truth”.
Obama severed ties with Wright, his pastor of 20 years, in May 2008, saying that “Whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed.”
Wright, now Pastor Emeritus at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, has maintained that his critics get it wrong when they say he is divisive and polarizing. At the NAACP’s 53rd annual ‘Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner’, Wright said, “I describe the conditions in this country”.
Carter Tabernacle CME Church will celebrate 94 years of service to the city of Orlando and the awe-inspiring event is expected to promote christian principals, economic empowerment, unity and harmony within the African-American community.
