Finally: Carroll Gets It, Apologizes to Gay Rights Group

Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll

Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll sent a letter of apology to a gay rights group that had criticized her response to allegations of improper activity.

Carroll was accused by a former staff who is facing criminal charges of an improper relationship with another aide, who is also female.

Carroll has strongly denied the allegation, and during one TV interview with WJXT in Jacksonville said “black women that look like me don’t engage in relationships like that.” That led to criticism of stereotyping by a gay rights organization, and Carroll sent the group a letter Thursday to apologize.

“It is wrong and inexcusable to make a comment that hurts people, and that was not my intention,” Carroll wrote in the letter to Equality Florida, which was reported by The Associated Press. “As a Christian, my faith guides me to love and respect all people. The false charges that have been lodged against me are no excuse for what I have said.”
