FHP: Van Driver Burns to Death in Semi Truck Crash

An unidentified driver burned to death on County Road 561 in Lake County, when the vehicle he was driving caught fire, after being hit by a semi truck.  The crash occurred just after 5:00 a.m.

Florida Highway Patrol said, Michael Bradbury, 50, of Tampa, was heading north on State Road 33, in a semi-truck, when he lost control and overturned. The semi-truck, which was hauling sand, slid across the road onto County Road 561 and the trailer portion struck the front of a Chevy van, traveling southbound on CR 561.  The van driver was approaching the intersection of State Road 33.

The van caught fire and the driver died on the scene.  Troopers said, because the body was so badly burnt, they have not yet been able to identify the driver.

Meanwhile, Bradbury, the semi truck driver, suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Bradbury and the unidentified driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

  1. Is there any update or followup of on the accident November 7 which killed Robert Day and hospitalized Michael Bradbury? Have any charges been filed against Mr. Bradbury?
I am a family member of Mr. Day and I live out of state so am not sure how to keep updated on this matter. Thanks.
