FHP: Two People Killed in Separate Crashes

Two people were killed in separate crashes on US-1 and Interstate 95 on Friday morning.

The first crash occurred on U.S.-1 near Airport Road when a driver, Lawrence Jacobson, 76, of Ormond Beach, turned into the direct path of motorcyclist, David Holup, 56, of Port Orange.

Jacobson was heading northbound when he attempted to turn left onto Airport Road.

Troopers said, Holup, who was heading south on U.S.-1, in order to avoid a collusion, dropped his Harley Davidson. It is believed that he was run over by Jacobson, who was driving a 2004 Lincoln Town car.

Holup was pronounced dead on the spot.

This crash occurred around 7:00 a.m., in Volusia County.

Troopers said, the crash is still being investigated and charges are pending.

In a separate crash on I-95 in Brevard County, the driver of a Ford van was killed after a tire separated and the vehicle overturned.

Troopers said, Barry Cohen, 59, of Rockledge, was heading south around 8:30 a.m., near mile marker 168, when a tire came off.

Cohen, who was in the right lane, drove to the right onto the shoulder, then overcorrected to the left.

FHP said the van overturned twice and he was ejected.

Cohen was pronounced dead on the scene.

Troopers said, the crash remains under investigation.
