Sanford Police Release 911 Tapes in Trayvon Martin Killing

Sanford police released late Friday night eight redacted 911 tapes on the night 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by a gun-toting neighborhood watch member, George Zimmerman.

Trayvon Martin

Martin was shot on February 26, in a gated community in Sanford shortly after returning from a nearby convenience store.   He was found with Skittles and iced tea in his pocket.

On one of the tapes, Zimmerman tells the 911 dispatcher that there is a “real suspicious guy” that “looks like he is up to no good,” describing Martin.

Zimmerman also tells the dispatacher that the person looks black and is wearing, “a dark hoodie, jeans, sweat pants and white tennis shoes.” He says that the “suspicious guy” is just walking around near the clubhouse and is staring at him.

“Something is wrong with him….He’s got something in his hands… now he is running,” Zimmerman says, and asks for a police officer to come over.

The dispatcher tells Zimmerman that, an officer is on his way.

“These ass holes…they always get away,” he says to the dispatcher.

Dispatcher: Are you following him?

Zimmerman: Yes

Dispatcher: We don’t need you to do that, o.k.?

Listen to George Zimmerman’s 911 call to police on February 26, 2012, minutes before he shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

On the remaining seven tapes, panicked neighbors called 911 to report that they heard a male yelling for help, a gunshot, then all went quiet.

911 Caller: I heard someone screaming outside, ‘help, help, then I heard just one gunshot.’ I don’t hear him yelling anymore, one caller said.

Another 911 caller: Someone was screaming outside. There’s was someone screaming. I just heard a gunshot.

Another 911 caller: I just heard a shot right behind my house. A shot or a rocket. I am pretty sure the guy is dead out there. There was a guy yelling ‘help.’ Oh, my God.

Another 911 caller: Someone is yelling, screaming- help, help, help. There was moaning, then I heard a boom. I though I heard a gunshot.

In another brief 911 call, the caller also says, “I think someone has been shot. He’s a black guy.”

In yet another 911 call which lasts for nearly 15 minutes, an almost uncontrollable woman tells the dispatcher that, “someone was screaming ‘help’ and I think I heard like a bang.”

“I don’t know what happened, someone is on the ground. Oh my God, hurry up. I don’t know if someone is dead on the ground,” she says.

“Oh my God, someone has been shot. I can’t believe someone has been killed. He’s shot, he is laying on the gound,” she tells the dispatcher.

The woman says her back porch is close to where the shooting took place. She also says she doesn’t want to be a witness or anything.

She tells the dispatcher that two men were wrestling each other, then she heard the cries, ‘help, help.’

“Oh my God, why would this man just kill him, someone kill someone like that,” the panicked caller says. “Oh my God, oh my God.”

“A man is raising his hands saying he is the person,” the almost uncontrollable woman adds. “He didn’t try to run or anything.”

A young boy tells the call taker he saw a man laying on the ground that needed help and he was screaming. He said he went to get his dog to go out to help, but then “I heard a loud sound, a gunshot. Then the screaming stopped.”

The fatal shooting of Martin, a black teen, has unleashed a firestorm not only across Central Florida, but nationwide as well.  Zimmerman, who has admitted to shooting Martin, continues to walk free and has not been charged.

Earlier this week, Sanford police turned over their investigation to the State Attorney’s office for review and further action, if any.

There have been calls by U.S. Congresswoman Corrine Brown (D-FL) and the Florida Legislative Black Caucus, for the U.S. Department of Justice to get involved in reviewing the case, as the view is widely shared that justice for Martin might be elusive locally.

It is not yet clear whether DOJ would get involved.

The Florida Civil Rights Association on Friday renewed its call to Gov. Rick Scott for the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to take over the investigation.

  1. I heard George Zimmerman was hispanic, and he was never charge for the murder of Trayvon. They better do there job and investagate this very carefully, because these stinkin hispanics are
out of control and getting on my damn nerves. If George Zimmerman is found guilty of this crime his ass is grass for sure.
These nasty, stinkin, funky hispanics are here to take over America
and We the people of the United States of America are not putting
up with these hispanics wanting to suck the white man’s dick to get ahead and trying to wipe out the black people. We were here
first and were staying all the way to the end and if you want a war
    were ready.

  2. Its sad when our kids are automatically profiled because of their dress code and people who do not have kids (which I am sure Zimmerman did not; educated guess) tends to negatively label them. First and foremost what the hell is a Volunteer Neighborhood Crime Watch Individual doing walking around with a loaded gun (intent to do bodily harm attitude). Secondly, why in the hell have the Sanford Police Department not even arrested him for violating the FLORIDA ZERO TOLERANCE GUN LAW (Pull a gun, Fire a gun & Shoot someone). That alone should be probable cause to arrest this man. From my understanding Zimmerman has a violent past history (why have that not been taking into consideration. I know GOD says VENGEANCE IS MINES but remember there are some that lives by that and others that lives by I AM VENGEANCE!!! Its a known fact that we all still living in a society of racism and the WAR of Racism is not yet OVER!!!!
