FHP: Deputy Hits, Kills Pedestrian

A Brevard County deputy sheriff traveling on State Road 520 struck and killed a pedestrian just before 6:00 am, on Monday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to FHP, Deputy Sheriff Vincent Marino-Vitane, 45 years, was traveling eastbound on State Road 520 in the left lane in a marked Brevard County deputy car around 5:45 on Monday morning.

A pedestrian was attempting to cross State Road 520 when she walked directly into the path of the deputy’s car.

The pedestrian was struck by the deputy’s car.  She died on the spot.

FHP said that the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk when she was attempting to cross the road.

Law enforcement is working to identify the pedestrian killed.

The accident remains under investigation.
