A popular head football coach of a local high school in Daytona beach was arrested in a prostitution sting over the week-end.
John Maronto, 68, was arrested for soliciting sex from a prostitute, who turned out to be an undercover officer, on Saturday night.
According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, in response to complaints from local business owners and citizens that live in the area, a prostitution operation was mounted between September 4-5, in an ongoing effort to curb street level prostitution.
Maronto, from South Atlantic Avenue was arrested when he tried to solicit sex from the undercover officer. He has been charged with solicitation to commit prostitution. Maronto was taken booked into the Volusia County Jail, but has since been released on bond.
In addition to Maronto, there were five other men arrested during the sting.
Maronto is head coach of the Mainland High School Bucs in Daytona Beach. His current status with the team is unclear.
