Female Student Brings Knife to Central Florida School, Threatens to Kill Male Student

A female student brought a knife to a Central Florida school and threatened to kill a male student.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the ninth-grade student at Spoto High School in Riverview near Tampa for bringing a weapon onto school grounds.

This month, school administrators alerted the School Resource Deputy following a verbal altercation between 15-year-old Di’Naste Gibson and a male classmate. During the exchange, which occurred in front of an adult witness, Gibson reportedly told the other student, “We are not going to fight here, let’s go to the park,” and, “I’m going to kill you.”

An administrative search of Gibson’s belongings revealed a serrated pocket knife. During an interview with the School Resource Deputy, Gibson admitted to displaying the knife during the altercation.

According to local law enforcement, Gibson was taken into custody and charged with one count of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. She has no prior criminal history.

“Parents, please take the time to speak with your children about the serious consequences of bringing any kind of weapon to school,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “A classroom should be a place for learning and growth, not fear. One poor decision can change a young life forever, and it’s our responsibility—as a community and as parents—to help prevent that.”
