FDLE Investigates Yet Another Deputy Shooting

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has been requested to investigate an Orange County deputy-involved shooting.

It happened on Tuesday night at the Somerset Apartments on Lee Road.  Deputies were called out to one of the apartments for a battery taking place in one of the apartments.

According to deputies, when investigators arrived, they could hear the fight and from the back of the apartment saw the suspect, 27-year-old Benjamin Whitted choking the female victim inside.

Whitted was commanded to cease, but according to a report from OCSO, he did not respond initially to commands.

Deputies said, they believed the suspect was armed and fired, striking him. Whitted was immediately placed into custody and received assistance from the aid of Orange County Rescue for a non-life threatening wound.

Deputies said, no others were injured.

The deputy  involved in the shooting, whose name had not been released,  has been reassigned to administrative duties for one week.

Sheriff Jerry Demings has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to conduct an independent investigation into this incident and deputy involved shooting.
