Evans High Naval Junior Reserve Corps Earns Plaudits

Evans High School, Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps

The Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program of Maynard Evans High School has been a source of tremendous pride at Evans High School.

The program boosting 196 Cadet Corp has been a path to a brighter future for many cadets in hopes of a career in the military or an opportunity to attain a college education.

This year the Unit produced five military scholarship recipients cadets; Ny’kobia Walker (Spelman College), Ayifa Brooks (Savannah State University), Todd Chandler (Florida A&M University), Dominique James (Florida A&M University Army ROTC) and DeShaun Green (Morehouse College) for a total of $900,000 dollars. In addition, seven cadets enlisted in the United States Armed Forces.

Cadets and instructors are elated about the success of the program after a 3rd straight appearance in the State ROTC Championship Field Meet and the school’s sixth Distinguished Unit Award. The program has now taken on a level of respectability, normally reserved for some of Florida’s more prestigious high schools.

Completing over 5,000 hours of community service, in the Pine Hills and surrounding areas, the Evans’ NJROTC program has worked hard to build and maintain their reputation for developing upstanding young citizens.

Maynard Evans NJROTC was presented an Award of Excellence for its contribution to the Pine Hills community from the Orange County School Board.

Evans High cadets are constantly called upon to perform ceremonial duties and community service for civic organizations.

A shining star in the Pine Hills community, The Mighty Trojan NJROTC continues to be a producer of outstanding future leaders.
