Police Arrest Registered Felon in Counterfeit Money Bust

Jared Sharpe

A man producing counterfeit bills was arrested Tuesday, Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies said.

34-year-old Jared Shape, of St. Cloud, a registered felon, was arrested and charged with making and possessing instruments for forging bills and issuing forged bills.

Investigators say, the investigation began at a Circle K Store located at 3820 Canoe Creek Road in St. Cloud, after a female customer attempted to make a purchase using a counterfeit $20 bill.

The woman, who retrieved the forged $20 bill, paid for her purchase with cash, but not before the clerk got a good description of the vehicle in which she and husband were traveling.

A St. Cloud police officer located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

Police say, the husband and wife cooperated with investigators, telling them that they attemped to make a purchase at the CVS Pharmacy located at 2105 13th Street in St. Cloud, but the store clerk would not take the counterfeit $20 bill.

The pair told police they received the counterfeit bills from Sharpe, who makes the forged bills in a shed behind his residence located at 2911 Clay Whaley Road in St. Cloud.

Yesterday, August 16, undercover detectives conducted an investigation and arrested Sharpe at his residence.

Investigators retrieved some counterfeit bills, a printer, paper and template used to make the money.
