Gaffe-prone presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was jeered after he offended Brits by questioning whether the United Kindgom was ready to stage the Olympic games.
An entire city appeared to turn against him as thousands mocked him when Mayor Boris Johnson used Romney’s earlier remarks as a rallying cry, the Daily Mail reported.
“There’s a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know if we are ready. Are we ready? Yes we are!” Johnson shouted to the crowd of more that 60,000 gathered in Hyde Park at a concert to mark the end of the Olympic Torch relay.
Romney, who had earlier in the day been rebuked by UK Prime Minister David Cameron over the same issue – questioning Britain’s readiness to host the games — appeared to change his tune saying instead outside No 10 that the games will be a “great success.”
The former Massachusetts governor also awkwardly referred to British opposition leader Ed Milibrand as “Mr. Leader,” added yet another gaffe to his collection, the Daily Mail also reported. “Mr. Milibrand” would have worked just fine.
