ELEVATE Orlando recently announced Jonas Cayo has been promoted at the nonprofit and now serves as its new President.
Hired in 2011 as a Teacher/Mentor at Evans High School, Cayo has been instrumental in the nonprofit’s mission of equipping and empowering Orlando’s urban youth through in-school instruction, 24/7 mentoring and preparation for post-secondary education. He most recently served as Director of Operations at ELEVATE before this promotion to President.
As a native of Pine Hills born to Haitian immigrants, Cayo is familiar with the daily struggles his students face.
“It takes people of the community to solve problems in the community,” said Cayo. “I hope our students see themselves in me and draw inspiration that continues shaping a more diverse and inclusive future for all.”
Cayo is a graduate of Evans High School and a first-generation college student. He lives in Orlando with his wife, Dr. Ketia Cayo, and two sons, Justus and Kyrell.
ELEVATE Orlando aims to build long-term, life-changing relationships with urban youth, equipping them to thrive and contribute to the greater Orlando community.
