Update: An earlier version of this article cited Christina Clement Donegan as primary supporter and campaign adviser to Scott Boyd, which was not correct.
The race for Orange County Property Appraiser has just begun, but already, challenger Scott Boyd is finding that registering and running are two very different processes.
According to sources close to the campaign, supporters are already jumping ship after only two weeks.
A handful of former Property Appraiser, Bill Donegan supporters are still smarting from the shocking loss to Rick Singh in the 2012 election. Both the Boyds and the Donegans are part of the network of old Orange County families that zip in and out of local business and politics, which is why Mr. Boyd is hoping to staff his campaign office with Donegan fans.
Currently, sources say that the Boyd campaign, frantically trying to raise money for Vice Mayor Boyd, is encountering immense difficulty, as many of the targeted donors are already backing Mr. Singh.
While unconfirmed, some who are close to the campaign are citing Scott Boyd’s “laziness and unwillingness” to make campaign donation phone calls, amongst other complaints, placing pressure on volunteers and others, leading to some exiting the campaign.
Staff turnover in political campaigns is a common occurrence, but after less than two weeks, it’s a sure sign that Mr. Boyd is going to have many problems getting his campaign off the ground.
Earlier this month, Mr. Boyd, who has reached term limits on the County Commission, officially filed to run for Orange County Property Appraiser.
