As Mayor Buddy Dyer struggles to balance the 2014/15 budget, with plans to cut millions from policing and other city services, a new survey finds Orlando ranking second to Miami Beach on a list of the 20 most dangerous cities in Florida.
Undertaken by Home Security Shield, the survey considered both violent and property crimes. And by this measure, a person stands a one in 13 chance of becoming a victim of crime in Orlando. When violent crime only is considered, Orlando ranks #10.
Among the other more dangerous cities in Florida are: Daytona Beach which ranks #3, Panama city #4 and Key West nabs the #5 spot. Miami ranks #10, West Palm Beach #15 and Leesburg rounds out the 20th spot.
Tallahassee, the state capitol, is ranked #21 when violent crime only is considered, while Tampa ranks #40.
