A drug dealer was identified and arrested after a recent Central Florida overdose death.
According to local law enforcement, an Ormond Beach woman died of a suspected fentanyl overdose, and less than eight hours later, her dealer was in Volusia County Sheriff’s Office custody.
32-year-old Trevin D. Smith was arrested after VSO Overdose Task Force detectives found messages on the 35-year-old victim’s phone indicating he sold her fentanyl and was offering to sell her more.
Smith agreed to meet at a 7-Eleven in Ormond Beach, where detectives were waiting. He tried to run away but was taken into custody after a brief foot chase to a nearby gas station. As he ran, he threw his phone and a small baggie of fentanyl, which were both recovered.
The overdose death investigation is ongoing.
According to law enforcement, Smith was in jail with no bond on charges including sale/delivery of fentanyl, resisting, use of a 2-way communication device to commit a felony, driving with a suspended license, and neglect of a child, his toddler who was in the back seat of his car with no child safety seat or restraints.
