Driver who killed mother and son, arrested

The investigation took a little over one year, but the grandson of Central Florida founder of T.G. Lee Diary, who foolishly ran a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle killing a mother and her young child, was arrested today, Florida Highway Patrol said.

After a year long investigation, Thomas Gilbert Lee II, 48, was booked into the Orange County Jail on Friday afternoon.

Lee was traveling north on County Road 13 in a Chevy pick-up when he ran a stop sign and struck the Oldsmobile van Katherine Townsend, 36, and her young son, John, 9, were in. Townsend was heading east on 5th Avenue when Lee crash into her van.  The crash occurred on April 10, 2013 around 6:50 p.m.

Townsend and her son died at a local area hospital the following day.

Lee was arrested at his residence without incident.  He is in the Orange County Jail awaiting bond.
