Recently, there have been several reports of vehicle burglaries in several City of Orlando neighborhoods. This currently includes, The Millenia Area, The Village Lake and Village Park Apartments in Rosemont, The South Orange/Wadeview Park neighborhoods, the Thornton Park and Colonialtown neighborhoods, and the Lake Copeland and ORHS areas.
Items being targeted include any valuables left inside of vehicles. You can reduce your risk of becoming a victim by doing the following:
1. Report suspicious activities. You, the resident, know what activity is normal for your area. Call 911 when someone is acting suspicious.
2. Be alert to your surroindings and get to know your neighbors.
3. Remove any and all valuables from the vehicle and then lock the vehicle. Even if the item is not of value to you, it may be of value to a criminal.
3. GPS systems, including the dash holder must be removed.
4. Set your vehicle alarms.
5. When out shopping or dining, park in well lit areas.
6. Do not leave newly purchased items in your vehicle.
7. Make sure you have serial numbers recorded for the property that you own.
8. When parked at home, park under outdoor light, and lock your vehicle. Again, do not leave items in your car.
9. Start and maintain a neighborhood watches on your street. Get involved!
