Doing It The Right Way: Polk County Sheriff’s Office Gets It Right

policecrimetapeA man who police say, fired shots during a domestic violence dispute and then barricaded himself inside an apartment in Auburndale, has been captured.

Police say, John Gerome Rogers, 41, was taken into custody, on Thursday afternoon and will be transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Auburndale police went to an apartment in the 300 block of Adams Street around 10:00 a.m. today, after receiving a call regarding shots being fired.

The victim told investigators that she had been dating Rogers, when he fired two rounds from a .38 caliber handgun. He then barricaded himself and refused to come out.

The East Area Adult School was placed on lockdown and residents of surrounding homes and the apartment complex were evacuated. Surrounding streets were also shut down.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office with its SWAT Team, working with Auburndale police, gained entry into the apartment and secured Rogers.

Rogers appeared disoriented at the time of capture, police say.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more.
