DOH Announces Leader to Spearhead Cancer Efforts

 

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) today announced the selection of Robert L. Hood, Ph.D., as the director for Florida’s cancer and research program. Dr. Hood has 10 years of experience in public health research and most recently served with the Association for Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRP).

“Dr. Hood brings the skills and experience necessary to facilitate the establishment and growth of our state’s efforts to research cancer care,” said State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong.

Prior to his AAHRP position, Dr. Hood served as the State Public Health Ethicist and Assistant Director of the Office of Public Health Research for the Florida Department of Health. Dr. Hood has published numerous articles and books on topics ranging from AIDS to Ethics in Public Health.

Dr. Hood has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas, a master’s degree from the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University. He completed a clinical ethics fellowship at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
