Deputy Sheriff Gunned Down on Orange County Street

 

lightsfinalAn Orange County deputy sheriff was killed late Monday night while responding to a car burglary.  The shooting happened near Apopka Vineland Road and Conroy Windermere Road.

The deputy was responding to a car break-in, when he made contact with a suspect and shots were fired.  The deputy was taken to the trauma center at Orlando Regional Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save his life.

The fallen deputy, who has not been identified, leaves behind a wife and three children.

Investigators say, not far from the original shooting area, the suspect was found deceased.  It is believed that he committed suicide.  A woman in the area was taken in for questioning.  Her connection to the shootings are unknown.

Orange County Sheriff Demings, issued the following statement:

“The citizens of Orange County lost a true hero who was tragically killed patrolling the streets of our community. I ask the community for their prayers for our fallen deputy’s family which includes a wife and three small children. Thank you for your continued support as we go through these trying times together.”
