House Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration took credit for building “a resilient economic recovery,” and said they were “committed to finishing the job, growing the middle class and making the American Dream available to all Americans.”
House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, Vice Chair Ted Lieu and DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene held a leadership press conference on how Bidenomics and House Democrats’ People Over Politics agenda are growing the economy and middle class.
“House Democrats are united and energized,” Chair Aguilar said. “Inflation has now decreased for 12 months in a row. The unemployment rate dropped, once again, to 3.6 percent. Wages are up compared to last year. And more working-age Americans are in the workforce than at any time in the last 20 years.”
Vice Chair Lieu added that “the economy is going great.”
Meanwhile, Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott blamed Democrats and Bidenomics for ongoing inflation and said it has failed American families.
DCCC Chair DelBene disagrees. “House Democrats are united,” she said. “We’ve been united around addressing the real issues that are impacting American families.”
President Biden is clearly proud to campaign on his economic record.
“Good jobs and lower costs,” President Joe Biden said in a statement responding to the June Consumer Price Index. “That’s Bidenomics in action. Today’s report brings new and encouraging evidence that inflation is falling while our economy remains strong. Annual inflation has fallen each of the last twelve months and is now down to 3%. We’ve made this progress while unemployment remains near record lows and a higher share of working age Americans are in jobs now than in 20 years. Real wages for the average American worker are now higher than they were before the pandemic, with lower wage workers seeing the largest gains. Our progress creating jobs while lowering costs for families is no accident, and I will continue to fight for lower costs for families every day. I ran for office to grow the economy from the middle out and bottom up, not the top down: that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
Democrats also attempted to shift the narrative and launched political attacks on Republicans. “Extremism, chaos and dysfunction continues to be the realm of the day,” Rep. Aguilar said.
“Our hope is that the Republican Caucus will put country first and not continue to be extreme, but we shall see,” Rep. Lieu added. And Rep. DelBene added “Republican chaos also puts us on a fast track to a shutdown.”
