Governor Charlie Crist who signed the $66.5 billion austere state budget has vetoed a $30 million pay cut for state workers earning $45,000 and more.
Crist said that, “I believe now is not the time to reduce state employee pay, and so we have made that modification. ”
Crist, who is running for the U.S. Senate, vetoed only two items. Besides reversing the state worker pay cut, he also reversed a $6 million sweep of a trust fund that pays for processing concealed weapons permits, a move that was heavily lobbied by the National Rifle Association and Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson, who administers the program.
