Crist Talks Strategy with Realtors

Governor Charlie Crist met with realtors from across the state today, to discuss strategies for helping turnaround  Florida’s  housing market which largely remains in a slump since the Great Recession.

for-sale-signCrist told the group that SunRail, which would now become a reality given the passage of the transit rail legislation, would assist in helping the market to turn around.

“Transportation avenues are providing greater options for people whether it’s in trade, economic development, or just moving around the state of Florida for whatever reason it might be. The easier it is for people, the easier it is for them to get a home, to rent an apartment, to work in one city and transport to another and commute, all of those things add up,” said Crist.

The group informed that, some 140,000 first-time homebuyers had purchased houses in Florida in 2009, this owing largely to the $8,000 federal tax credit and low interest rates.

Just before the meeting concluded, the realtors asked for Crist’s support for a constitutional amendment to cap property taxes and to turn down an amendment which requires voters to approve changes to city and county growth plans.
