Crist, Scott Host Menorah Lighting Ceremony

Gov. Charlie Crist and Gov.-elect Rick Scott served as co-hosts for a Hanukah menorah-lighting ceremony Monday night at the Governor’s Mansion, with the two men touting the transition.

“It’s a lot of work,” Scott said of the job. “We’re trying to make sure we find the best people….we’ve got good transition teams that are giving me good ideas about what we should be doing. It’s been a lot of fun.”

Crist added: “We both feel a sense of duty,” to have a “seamless transition.”

Scott is heading to Washington, D.C., for three days this week, including some Homeland Security briefings by the White House.

Meanwhile, Scott has reported raising more than $800,000 for his inaugural, but ducked a question about how much he felt was appropriate for the festivities in an economically battered state.

“I’m not sure what the right number is, as you know we’re also raising donations for our Wounded Warrior program,” Scott said of the inaugural fund-raising effort, which includes helping servicemen and -women injured in South Asia. “I think it’s important to have a celebration, but it’s also important to raise money for a great cause.”
