An Orlando police officer is recovering today, after he ran his cruiser into the back of a tractor trailer, trapping himself inside the cop car.
Florida Highway Patrol said, 27-year-old Officer Anthony Kirby who was heading north on Orange Blossom Trail, took evasive action from the semi traveling west from a private driveway, attempting to turn left to travel southbound on OBT.
Troopers said, Officer Kirby applied brakes, swerved to avoid the collision and traveled under the semi-trailer, exiting on the north side of the trailer.
Officer Kirby, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
The driver of the semi, 61-year-old Paul Richardson of Weisdale, was not injured in the crash.
Richardson, who troopers said, failed to yield the right-of-way when exiting from the private driveway, was issued a ticket for violation of a right-of-way.
The crash occurred on Friday night around 9:00 p.m.
