Contempt For Scott Grows as Floridians Begin to Wake Up

Gov. Rick Scott continues to get the thumbs down from Florida voters and his disapproval ratings are going through the roof.

A new Quinnipiac University Poll released on Wednesday finds that more than double the number of Florida voters–48 percent–now disapprove of the job Scott is doing, up from 22 percent in February earlier this year.  Voters by 53-37 percent also say, his state budget proposals are unfair to them.

47 percent of voters say Scott’s proposed budget cuts go “too far”, 16 percent say they don’t go “far enough” and 29 percent say they are “about right,” the independent Quinnipiac University survey finds.

Nearly 50 percent of voters believe that a proposal working its way through the Legislature which would end government’s practice of collecting union dues from state workers is a bad idea, although 74-22 percent support the provision of the same bill which would require unions to get individual members’ approval before using dues payments for political purposes.

By 57-39 percent, voters disapprove of the new law recently passed that ties teachers’ pay to student performance on standardized tests.  Voters are split, 47-47 percent on the elimination of teacher tenure for hires after July 1st, embodied in the law.

Voters disapprove 55 – 36 percent with how Scott is handling the budget; 52 – 41 percent say Scott should not have committed to balancing the budget without raising taxes and by 64 – 24 percent they say he will not be able to keep that no-tax pledge.

By 49 – 44 percent, voters say Scott’s plan to cut $2 billion in property and business taxes is a bad idea.

According to Quinnipiac, “Scott is a four-letter word to many Florida voters” with 53 percent feeling the $4.6 billion in cuts is “unfair to them.”

The poll was conducted from March 29 to April 4 and Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,499 registered voters, with a margin of error of +/-2.5 percent points.
