Community Based Care Offers Foster-Parenting Course in Spanish

fosterFor the first time in Central Florida, prospective foster parents seeking licensure from Community Based Care of Central Florida – the region’s leading nonprofit organization overseeing foster care, adoption and other child welfare services – can now take the 11-week orientation and training course in Spanish.

“There is always a critical need for more Spanish-speaking foster parents,” said Beth Batten, director of licensing at Community Based Care of Central Florida. “When children who speak little to no English enter the foster care system, it provides a unique set of challenges. We hope the Spanish-language PRIDE course will encourage more bilingual individuals and families to step up and help vulnerable children.”

The next PRIDE (Parent Resource for Information, Development and Education) course begins Feb. 16 and occurs each Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Although the course will be taught in Spanish, all homework will be assigned in English, and at least one person in each parenting family unit needs to read, write and speak English fluently.

Participants can register any time between now and Feb.16 by calling 1-866-90-CHILD to be prescreened and enroll in the PRIDE training course.
