Orlando citizens who help fight crime will be recognized for their dedicated efforts at the upcoming annual Neighborhood Watch Leaders Forum.
Now into its 27th year, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, city commissioners and Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney will recognize Neighborhood Watch Captains in an event on February 8, at the Henry P. Leu Gardens.
Their dedication has led OPD to place in the top three for the past six consecutive years in the National Night Out crime prevention put on by the National Association of Town Watch, a statement from OPD said. As well, in 2011, the OPD was selected as the Category 2, first place National Night Out area.
There are currently more than 700 Neighborhood Watch Block Captains in Orlando.
