City of Orlando celebrates Black History Month

What: Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Daisy W. Lynum, District 6 City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings and City of Orlando staff will host the annual Celebrate Black History event on Wednesday, February 24 in the City Hall Rotunda at 5:30 p.m. to honor and recognize the contributions and positive influence of African Americans in Orlando.

The event will include a sampling of African American dishes and cultural entertainment including a West African dance performance by Davon Barbour, City of Orlando DDB/CRA Assistant Director. Ron Blocker, Superintendent of Orange County Public Schools, will be the keynote speaker, addressing the importance of education for African Americans in Orlando.

The month of February, is known nationally as Black History Month, and is dedicated to honoring the achievements of African Americans and their lasting impact on our nation’s history.
