Christine Guhl named 2010 School-Related Employee of the Year

Lancaster Elementary School computer lab paraprofessional Christine Guhl has received the 2010 Florida Department of Education School-Related Employee of the Year Award.

Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith made the surprise announcement this morning while Guhl was working with students. Guhl was quickly surrounded by School Board Chairman Joie Cadle, District 3 School Board Member Rick Roach, Superintendent Ronald Blocker, principal Belinda Reyes, family, and co-workers. She received a check for $1,000.

Guhl is Orange County’s 2010 Support Person of the Year. She has worked for the district for 12 years. The programs she has organized for Lancaster are many, including “Compassion to Action” and “Mighty Mentors”, along with the “Character Cash” reward system. She has also developed numerous service-learning projects which continue year to year. She has been awarded several grants that help students in their service learning and character development. One grant specifically paid for a brand new playground for Lancaster students. As the computer lab paraprofessional, she has also helped improve reading gains for students. The Florida Department of Education School-Related Employee of the Year Program honors outstanding support personnel for contributions to their schools and districts. Nominees are selected based on demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication in the performance of their jobs.
