The Chocolate Nutcracker is a Christmas Holiday family event. Parents, children and the entire community will journey with a little girl named Claire, who through her enchanting dream, will travel with The Nutcracker through the exotic lands of Mali, North Africa, Egypt, Caribbean, Brazil, the Orient, the imaginary land of Starflight Ballet, Toyland, The Rain Forest, Jazz Land and the Land of Gospel. The scenes from this wonderful Holiday Legend are filled with the pageantry of dazzling costumes, exciting dance movements, spectacular sets, rhythm and sounds from Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite. The scenes are performed in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Swing, Jazz, African, American Pop and Hip Hop!

Orlando, FL, November 1, 2007: Southwest United Communities, Inc., and Universal Childcare Development Center are proud to present their annual “Arts In Education Initiative” – The Chocolate Nutcracker, a LaVerne Reed Production. The Chocolate Nutcracker is linked to the Florida Standards In Theatre, Dance and Music. This production is an arts education, youth development, community building strategy that will transform and enhance the quality of life for our youth and the entire community.

Approximately 300 local children from the Central Florida and surrounding communities have trained with local and internationally recognized professional artists who have performed with Alvin Ailey’s American Dance Theater, Arthur Mitchell’s Dance Theatre of Harlem, Joffery Ballet, the Miami Ballet and LaVerne Reed Productions. The Chocolate Nutcracker provides equal access to serious, progressive instruction in performing arts, dance, theater and music that will provide an educational experience that will help youth develop an appreciation for history, culture and dance, while displaying discipline, confidence, self-esteem, pride and positive images tot heir peers. Through the Orange County Public School and Community Arts Consortium, some 2,400+ school age children may be afforded an opportunity to attend a special young audience performance of The Chocolate Nutcracker on Friday, November 30th, at 10:30am.
Scheduled performances at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center on November 30th at 7:30pm and December 1, 2007 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm, will enhance civic pride and cultural diversity in the arts, while providing Central Florida with a dynamic Multicultural Holiday event for the entire family.
