Charlie Crist, Democratic candidate for Governor of Florida, announced he will visit Puerto Rico over the weekend to meet with government leaders and everyday Puerto Ricans following the devastation brought on by Hurricane Fiona.
Crist, who will be traveling with Orlando Congresswoman Val Demings and Central Florida Congressman Darren Soto, has been a vocal ally to Puerto Rico and Boricuas in Florida, helping to pass billions in aid and relief for improvement to the island’s infrastructure.
“The people of Puerto Rico continue to be in my heart and prayers following yet another devastating natural disaster,” said Charlie Crist. “The wounds of Maria have still not healed which is why it is so important for all of us – as private citizens and government officials – to provide all the support we can following yet another devastating storm.”
The visit will mark Crist’s second trip to the island this year.
Crist is in a heated campaign against incumbent Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, and Demings is closing in on incumbent Republican Senator Marco Rubio in her race.
President Joe Biden approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Puerto Rico, which unlocks more federal assistance through FEMA.
