Central Florida Deputy Hospitalized after Getting Rammed by Suspect

A Central Florida deputy was hospitalized after getting rammed by a suspect who fled a traffic stop at a high rate of speed.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident that resulted in one deputy being severely injured. On July 5th at 12:05am, an HCSO deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a black BMW on Bearss Avenue near Nebraska Avenue.

According to local law enforcement, the suspect fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.

At 12:25am, the deputy attempted a second traffic stop at Plantation Oaks Drive. When the deputy exited his vehicle, the suspect rammed him over and fled the scene. The deputy was transported to Tampa General Hospital with a fractured leg.

Through investigative means, detectives found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned approximately a mile from the second stop. Detectives have identified the owner of the car.

Detectives are asking the public to contact teamHCSO at 813-247-8200 if they witnessed the incident and have any information.

“This suspect’s actions have no regard for human life, choosing to ram a deputy without considering that his reckless actions could tragically impact the deputy’s life,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies come to work committed to making a difference in their community with every call for service, but also knowing how dangerous this career can be, putting their lives on the line every day.”

The deputy involved in this incident is 33-year-old Kalin Hall, who has 11 years of service.

“The safety of our deputies and the community is our top priority. Our detectives are working steadfastly to bring this suspect to justice for his reckless actions,” said Sheriff Chronister. “We are asking the community to contact our detectives if they witnessed the incident. Your information can be an important key to this investigation.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released footage of the body-camera video from Deputy Kalin Hall:

“Seeing this suspect show absolutely no regard for the life of our deputy, deliberately hitting him with his car is terrifying,” added Sheriff Chad Chronister. “The entire Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is here for Deputy Hall and will do anything they can to support him and his family.”

This investigation is ongoing, according to local law enforcement.
