Central Florida Congressman Targeted for ‘Soto Shutdown’ of Government

A Central Florida Congressman is being targeted for the “Soto Shutdown” of the federal government.

On day one of what they are calling the Democrats’ government shutdown, the National Republican Congressional Committee launched a paid advertising campaign targeting Democratic Rep. Darren Soto for shutting down the government and putting politics over people.

Darren Soto Shutdown “Out of touch Democrat Darren Soto is grinding America to a halt,” said NRCC spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole. “Soto’s shutdown puts critical programs that Floridians rely on at risk, just so he can prioritize open borders and handouts for illegal immigrants. Voters won’t forgive this betrayal.”

Representative Darren Soto is a vulnerable Democrat who is being targeted by Republicans as a possible seat to pick up in Congress. Like other Democrats, he says he did not vote to keep the government open because of a political fight for health care.

“I am working to keep critical services up and running for families in our community while lowering healthcare costs,” Rep. Soto said. “Sadly, Republicans are continuing to push a partisan spending bill that takes health care away from working families.”

Republicans say that by closing the government, Central Florida Rep. Darren Soto and other Democrats are denying paychecks to our military servicemembers, law enforcement, and border patrol agents. They say that Republicans voted to keep America open and secure, while Democrats chose politics over those who protect us.

“Shutting down the government to score political points is disgraceful,” NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole said. “The fact that Democrats are willing to stiff our troops and law enforcement says everything you need to know about their priorities.”

Republicans said that by voting to shut down the government, “out of touch Democrat” Rep. Darren Soto risked Florida’s 1,432,721 veterans’ access to critical programs they earned, from employment assistance to health care and support services. Veterans who fought for this country are being forced to fight Washington bureaucracy because Congressman Soto chose politics over people, the NRCC added.

During the government shutdown, FEMA is now “barred from selling or renewing flood insurance policies,” potentially leaving “millions of homeowners in limbo,” and the White House warned that when the agency runs out of money, it won’t be able to borrow any additional funds – no matter how bad things get from these hurricanes. That is bad news for Florida.

“This is out of touch Darren Soto’s radical agenda: Risk the safety and security of Floridians in order to send taxpayer-funded handouts to illegals and bow down to the far left,” the NRCC said about the Central Florida Democrat.

“Darren Soto’s vote that shut down the government isn’t just a cowardly partisan move, it’s a flat-out dangerous situation for his own constituents,” NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole said. “Floridians deserve a representative who serves them, not threatens them.”

The script of the political ad targeting the Central Florida Democrat for the “Soto Shutdown” says:

Democrats shut it down

CLIP (News Anchor): “As you know, Democrats are pushing for the shutdown, and they will get blamed if it happens”

Democrats refused to fund the government

So now military troops, police and Border Patrol lose their paychecks

Because of Democrats, veterans, farmers, small businesses lose critical funding

Disaster relief, cut off

Democrats are grinding America to a halt

In order to give illegal immigrants free health care
