Democrats: Republicans Control House, Senate, White House & Own Shutdown

Democrats are insisting to the American public that Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House, so the Republicans own the government shutdown.

The Democratic Party is also saying that the nation is facing a Republican-manufactured healthcare crisis due to the current government shutdown. Democrats say they are fighting for health care in this political battle and added that the Big Beautiful Law was “the biggest health care cut in the country that we have ever seen.”

“We’ve always wanted to work in a bipartisan way to solve these issues. Republicans control the House, the Senate and the White House. They own this crisis. They own this shutdown,” said House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar. “And instead, they want to use people as political pawns. Russ Vought wants to lay people off. He wants to fire people. He wants to use this shutdown to carry out the agenda that he has wanted all along. It’s shameful, and it’s wrong. [Democrats] will do everything in our power to fix this Republican mess, to provide health care to people and to ensure that the American people aren’t left out in the cold, because it’s the right thing to do.”

Republicans say the Democrats chose the government shutdown, and Americans are paying the price. But they will not back down to the Democratic Party demands, and said Democrats are pushing a $1.5 trillion ransom note to taxpayers.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer called it the Trump shutdown, and said American families will pay the price for Republicans’ petty political games. He said the Republican Party refuses to engage in bipartisan negotiations to protect Americans’ healthcare and that President Donald Trump is using the American people as pawns in this shutdown fight. The Senate Democrats are emphasizing the need for Republicans to come to the table and negotiate for the good of American families, but Republicans have offered their plan to reopen the government.

House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar joined Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Democratic Whip Katherine Clark blamed the shutdown on Republicans and said House Democrats are fighting to protect health care.

“Instead of protecting health care, they’re ripping it away. 15 million people at risk of losing their health care coverage,” said House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar. “And while we’re here trying to keep the government open, the guidance from our colleagues on the other side, Lisa McClain, my counterpart, the Chair of the Republican Conference, instructs their members: don’t talk about health care. That is their message. So while we’re fighting for health care, we’re fighting to keep this government open—the guidance from the GOP has been very clear: don’t talk about these issues. Because they know the American people are with us.”

It does not appear the Democrats have made any real progress in this political government shutdown, nor does it appear either side has a clear path to ending the shutdown at this time. Republicans said Democrats are gambling with a government shutdown and misleading the public by calling their $1.5 trillion spending spree a “clean” counter proposal.
