More Local Brush Fires

The brush fire in Volusia County, which has already consumed more than 3,000 acres, continues to burn as residents voluntary flee their homes.

Overnight, more firefighters were brought in to battle the blaze which is being fueled by heat and wind.

According to forestry officials, several homes in the Lake Harney Woods subdivision are being threatened.  Officials say that initially, four brush fires started with two of them merging into a single blaze.

As a precaution, Florida Power and Light has shut off power to the area.

Central Florida is particularly vulnerable to brush fires, in view of the unusually high temperatures and absence of rain that is currently being experienced.
