Central Florida 16-Year-Old Found Unresponsive, Face-Down in Water

A Central Florida 16-year-old was found unresponsive, face-down in water during a camping and fishing trip.

Volusia County Sheriff’s detectives conducted a recent death investigation after the 16-year-old was found unresponsive in the Indian River during a group camping and fishing trip.

16-year-old Hunter McKelvin, of Paisley, was recently found face-down in the water near an island east of Menard-May Park in Edgewater, according to local law enforcement.

Hunter’s friends performed CPR on him and took him via boat to Menard-May Park, where Edgewater Police Department officers and EMS took over, transporting him to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:30am.

There were no injuries observed and no indications of any suspicious circumstances found during the initial investigation, according to local law enforcement.




An autopsy was scheduled in the death investigation. The investigation was active pending the official autopsy results.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s office extended sincere condolences to Hunter’s parents, family members and friends in the Central Florida community.
