Casey, ‘Surprisingly Normal’, Speaks

Never made public before, Judge Belvin Perry unsealed psychological evaluations of Casey Anthony, in the form of depositions. The depositions were given from Dr. Jeffery A. Danziger and Dr. William Weitz on April 7, 2011 and April 13, 2001. While not much new comes out in the depositions, some details are provided on how Casey claims she got pregnant and the day her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, allegedly drowned.

Dr. Danziger in his deposition states, he examined Anthony on March 25, 2011, but had seen her back in July 2008, based on a court order that she be evaluated. Danziger said he did not find any evidence of an active mental illness and that in his opinion she was “competent to proceed.”  Personality tests also showed Anthony to be “entirely normal,” suggesting she might be a bit of a tomboy, with interests that are “stereotypically male,” and perhaps more interested in “cars” than “fabrics.”

Danziger said, when he met Anthony in July 2008, there was no agitation, irritability or anxiety or her part.  According to the doctor, Anthony was pleasant, friendly and cooperative and had as normal a mental status examination as could be. He said this was “very puzzling” for him. In a subsequent meeting, he said, when Anthony did talk about her father’s attempted suicide, this was discussed “with a measure of anger.”

When he told Anthony that he was surprised she’s doing so well given the circumstances, she replied:

“My gut feeling is she (Caylee) is okay. You have an interpersonal connection. I can sense. I feed that she’s close. My only focus is to have her home with our family. I know in my heart and my gut things are still okay,” Anthony told Danziger.

Danziger said, he had never seen anyone charged with first-dgree murder and never in a case where a murder of a child was involved, “completely normal” to this degree, given the magnitude of the circumstances.

In a visit on November 12, 2010, Anthony tells Danziger that she was molested by her brother Lee, sporadically between the ages of 12-15 years and that the two didn’t speak for 3-4 years after.

Anthony also told Danziger that her father George, also molested her, but she never told mom Cindy about it. When she told her mother about what happened with Lee, Anthony told the doctor that her mother said, “that’s why you’re a whore.”

Anthony said her father stopped molesting her at the age of 11, but there were some sporadic instances when she was 18 years.

“I tried to fight back when I was older,” Anthony told Danziger. “I’m not a big person.”

Anthony said, she had her “first real sex” at 16 years. She also said, she got pregnant at a party when she was 18 years, after she had taken two beers and was possibly given another drug. She woke up after having passing out, with “unclothed bottom” and that she didn’t remember anthing. She also told Danziger she didn’t know who was Caylee’s father.

Danziger, in a December 3, 2010 visit with Anthony, inquired about Caylee.  From the outset, he said, Anthony denied any involvement in the death of her daughter and instead, implicated her father George. Anthony told the doctor that she has never felt the want or need to put her hands on anyone, even with her father growing up, and so “could not do it to her child.” She told him, it’s just not possible.

Anthony told Danziger that she doesn’t believe that her daughter drowned accidentially. Anthony said, the ladder to the aboveground pool was not attached and that she couldn’t move it, far less a child, as it was too heavy.

“I think he (George Anthony) held her underwater,” Anthony told Danziger. “Maybe he was doing something to her and he tried to cover it up.”

She told the doctor she was awakened by her father who was screeming, “where’s Caylee?” and that she looked all over the house, in the garage, the yard and the last possible place, the aboveground pool.

“I didn’t see her in the pool,” Anthony said. She then saw Caylee in George’s arms, soaking wet and took her from him and collapsed on the porch, she told Danziger. She said her father was yelling at her telling her it was her fault.

“It was devasting when they found her,” Anthony said. “I felt as if my body was going to explode. Everything in that momemt hurt. I think about her daily. There is so much pain I can’t grieve in here.”

When asked why she did not call 911, Anthony told Danziger that she tried to get help from her mother, but couldn’t reach her on the phone. She said, her father told her to leave it to him and that he would handle it. She also said that she was afraid to call law enforcement because of what might happen to her father and of finding out what really happened to her daughter.

“The person last with Caylee wasn’t giving me answers,” Anthony said.

Anthony told Danziger that when her father left with Caylee she believed that the child might have been still okay. She hoped her father would step up and take responsibility. She also claimed that when she inquired subsequently about Caylee, her father said, the child was okay and was fine.

In the week following Caylee’s alleged drowning, Anthony said she told her mother she was staying with a boyfriend. When Cindy inquired about Caylee, Anthony said, “I told her everything but the truth. The fact was I didn’t know. I can’t explain why I didn’t tell her.”

Anthony added, she confided in no one and that her father told her to say, the child is with her (Casey), if she was asked.

On George’s attempted suicide, Anthony told Danziger, with some anger, that it was “his (George) way our of the grief and guilt and I am left to take the wrap.” I’ll be damed if I take responsibility for that, she added.

When questioned about the check fraud incident, for which Anthony is serving probation, she told Danziger the following:

“I made mistakes about money and bad checks. I was afraid to ask for financial help. The opportunity presented itself – a few hundred dollars. It wasn’t right. It was wrong. I should have been a better friend. The intended was a friend. I indented to pay her back. It was less than $600, it it was checks I did not have permission to use. I am on probation for that which will run out, and then she said at that point, January 23rd or 24th, it will be served with probation.”

Following the release of the sealed depositions, Mark Lippman, attorney for the Anthony family, issued the following statement, cfnews 13.com reports:

George Anthony was made aware of these statements in the deposition prior to the trial of his daughter in 2011 and no new information has been disclosed today. As he has repeatedly said prior to the trial, during the trial and after the trial he never molested any member of his family including Casey Anthony and he had nothing to do with the death of Caylee Marie Anthony including what happened to her remains after she allegedly drowned.
