Even as health officials in Haiti continue to fight the cholera outbreak and have prepared a National Response Strategy, other Caribbean countries are mobilizing with the help of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), for the possibility of it spreading outside that Caribbean Country.
According to the Caribbean Epidemiology Center’s (CAREC) website, there are 3,769 confirmed cholera cases in Haiti and the number of deaths have risen to 284.
In battling the outbreak in Haiti, officials have said that emphasis is been placed on protecting families at the community level, strengthening 80 centers of primary health care in the metropolitan area and reinforcing 10 cholera treatment centers and 8 hospitals for managing severe cases.
Several Caribbean countries have gone on high alert, following the cholera outbreak in Haiti last week.
