Buddy’s Booster: Orlando Mayor Gets Updated COVID Vaccine

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer got his updated COVID booster shot and recently made a pitch for residents to do the same.

“I’ve now received my updated COVID vaccine and my flu shot,” Mayor Dyer posted on social media. “I encourage you to talk to your doctor or pharmacist to learn how you can protect yourself and your family this winter.”

Mayor Dyer has been a consistent local voice urging Orlando residents to get vaccinated and take COVID precautions, and he was open about getting his previous COVID vaccine booster.

Meanwhile, the Florida Department of Health is reminding health care providers to “adequately inform their patients of all possible outcomes associated with the COVID-19 vaccines and to remain up-to-date with the current literature related to these vaccines.”

According to Orlando Democratic State Representative Anna Eskamani, the Florida DOH sent an email to healthcare providers with the information. She seemed surprised the message was sent and wanted to know who else received it.

“Based on the currently available data, Florida’s Surgeon General does not recommend the COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children and adolescents or the mRNA vaccines for males ages 18 to 39 because the risks likely outweigh the benefits at this point in the pandemic,” the Florida Department of Health message stated. “We encourage parents, guardians, and caretakers to stay informed and make the best decisions for their loved ones.”

Very different messages depending on the political representatives.
