Kaká, who signed a three-year contract today with Orlando City Soccer Club of the MLS, will join the team in January. He said he has been interested in joining an MLS team for a couple of years and his decision to sign with Orlando came down to a personal one, because of his relationship with owner Flavio Augusto da Silva of Brazil.
“This thing started in 2012,” Kaka said of his initial meeting with da Silva. “We speaking a lot. We flirting a lot,” he told reporters.
Reveling in the moment, Orlando City club president Phil Rawlins had this to say:
“We not only brought a Brazilian superstar, we brought a world superstar. Today we put MLS on notice. We may be franchise No 21, but we’re not here to make up the numbers.”
