Girl, 3, was killed, says Medical Examiner

homicide-investigation_genericThe death of 3-year-old Yeliani Schwartz Ojeda has been ruled a homicide, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said late Tuesday.

Yeliani Schwartz Ojeda, 3, died at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, last Saturday.  The girl’s mother, Maryann Schwartz, 22, had called 911 to report that the child had been struck by a car in the Grandview Point Apartments parking lot.

On Tuesday, the Medical Examiner said, the trauma suffered by Yeliani was not consistent with being struck by a vehicle.  The autopsy report found that Yeliani died from blunt force trauma. Also, the child was malnourished and had bruising which the ME determined was related to prior abuse.

Detectives continue to seek the cooperation of Maryann Schwartz, the girl’s mother, a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

No word yet on Schwartz’s arrest.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Crimeline at # 1-800-423-TIPS.
