Blocker nominated for Prestigious Urban Education Award

Every year the Council of the Great City Schools, ARAMARK Education, and Cambium Learning Group honor either a school district superintendent or school board member with the prestigious Richard R. The award will be presented tonight at the Council of the Great City Schools Fall Conference in Tampa. The winner receives a $10,000 college scholarship to present to a graduating senior from his or her district or from the high school where the winner graduated.

The late Richard R. Green was well-recognized as an outstanding urban educator ultimately leading the New York City school district, our nation’s largest. Green received many awards and remained true to his ideals of social justice and compassion for all children. He sought to help the helpless, and most of all, encouraged each child to live his or her dreams.

Superintendent Blocker leads Orange County Public Schools, the nation’s 10th-largest school district, and has done so since 2000.
