The state Public Service Commission on Tuesday approved contracts for Florida Power & Light to buy renewable energy in the future from new biomass plants in Clay, Martin and Okeechobee counties.
Subsidiaries of U.S. EcoGen, LLC, plan to start operating the plants in 2019, using Eucalyptus as the crop for the biomass systems, according to a news release from the Public Service Commission.
“These biomass contracts will create jobs for Floridians, help FPL diversify its fuel supply, and save customers money,” PSC Chairman Ronald Brise said.
