Barricaded Man in Custody, SWAT Team Held Off for 5 Hours

A man is in police custody after holding a  Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team at bay for five hours on Tuesday.

Alexis Franco, who was arrested on August 21st in a domestic violence case when he battered the mother of his children, had been released on home confinement with conditions.

OPD was called to a home on Dorado Avenue, East Orlando, on August 31st, around 8:48 p.m. with information that, Franco had threatened to kill the victim (mother of Franco’s children) and her family, if she did not drop the earlier charges of August 21st.

The information provided was that Franco was armed and had numerous guns.

OPD officers tried to talk Franco into coming out of his residence, however he would not communicate for most of the early morning hours.

A SWAT team and CNT were called out around 8:30 a.m. today and at approximately 10:38 am, OPD was able to establish communication with Franco.

At around 1:00 p.m. earlier today, as the SWAT team was deploying gas, a shot rang out inside the residence.   Upon entering Franco’s residence, he was found with a self inflicted gunshot wound.   His condition is unknown at the present time.

Franco has been charged with aggravated stalking, violation of pre-release conditions, and tampering with a witness.
