Ayala Drops Congressional Bid to Run for Florida Attorney General

Ayala Attorney General with BidenAramis Ayala is dropping her Orlando congressional bid to run statewide for Attorney General. In recent days, rumors were swirling of an effort to recruit one of the candidates running in the Democratic primary for Florida’s 10th Congressional District to run for Attorney General – and it looks like Ayala is shifting gears politically.

Leading up to this, an online petition was posted on Change.org to draft Aramis Ayala for the statewide office. Ayala was one of many candidates running in a crowded Democratic primary to replace U.S. Representative Val Demings, who is vacating the Congressional seat to run for U.S. Senate.

“The race for Attorney General of Florida has profound national implications,” the online petition says. “We have already had a glimpse of what Aramis Ayala is capable of achieving in the fight for justice and public safety. In steadfast defiance of the status quo, her work to keep our young people out of the system, defend the human rights of immigrants, expand transparency and accountability for law enforcement, uphold First Amendment rights, and protect victims of abuse has led to historic changes. We ask her to take her commitment to Floridians to the position where she can most swiftly affect the greatest number of lives, using the powers of her office to expand the work of justice to housing, the environment, protecting our votes, and more.”

At the time of publication, the online petition to draft Aramis Ayala for Attorney General of Florida had 200 signatures.

“For women, for Black and Brown people, for the LGBTQIA community, for the working class, we call on Aramis Ayala to run for Attorney General of Florida,” the petition concludes.

Well, it looks like Florida voters will indeed see Ayala on the ballot statewide now, as the candidate posted this photo to confirm the news this afternoon:
