A man who attempted to murder his girlfriend Saturday night by stabbing her several times in East Orlando, ended up crashing his vehicle downtown Orlando as he tried to escape Orange County Sheriff’s deputies in a car chase. The suspect ended up crashing his car into several others, which left one person dead and the woman he stabbed in critical condition, according to news reports.
Just before 11:00 pm on April 24, 2010 Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a severely injured female in the area of Dean Road and Colonial Drive. When deputies arrived on scene they determined the female to be the victim of an attempted murder. The victim was able to the give deputies details of a suspect and a vehicle description.
Deputies spotted the vehicle, a white BMW SUV, at University and Goldenrod, and shortly thereafter initiated a traffic stop. The suspect’s vehicle did not stop, and deputies pursued for several minutes at normal speeds.
At some point in downtown Orlando, the vehicle picked up speed and deputies temporarily lost sight of it. Subsequently, the suspect’s vehicle slammed into several cars on Colonial Drive and Garland directly under the I-4. Eye witnesses say that the white SUV was traveling well over 100 mph, became air borne and the crash cut the roof off of the vehicle. One person was killed as a result of the several-car crash.
The woman who was stabbed remains in critical condition, according to news reports.
Deputies are not releasing the names of the suspect or the victims’ names at this time.
