Attack at Central Florida Transient Camp, Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder

A suspect was charged with attempted murder after an attack at a Central Florida transient camp.

Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 29-year-old Giovanni Bubenik on a charge of attempted first-degree murder, as local detectives have been investigating an attack in a DeLand-area transient camp that left the adult male victim in critical condition.

After a thorough investigation, Bubenik was identified as the suspect who struck the victim in the back of the head multiple times and dug a grave for him at the camp in the woods off International Speedway Boulevard and Stone Street in DeLand.

Deputies tracked down Bubenik hiding at Evergreen Terrace and took him into custody with the help of K-9 Red.

The victim has since regained consciousness but is believed to have significant long-term injury and memory loss.
