Through October 13, 2013, downtown Titusville will become a Digital Downtown when it showcases Art & Algorithms—an arts festival featuring first-run films and holographic and lenticular imagery from the UK, select Florida digital artists, hands-on digital fun and large-scale 3-D digital mapping and projection.
The festival will bring together contemporaries in international digital arts from U.S. and Europe (first U.S. showings) within an interactive street party atmosphere. Highlights of the festival include:
— 3-D DIGITAL MAPPING– Action-packed, larger than life projection is the anchor entertainment during the opening and closing weekends of the festival. Imagine a large scale, three-dimensional video on the side of a building in downtown Titusville.
— The Holographic and Lenticular Exhibit is a collection not available anywhere else in the United States. Coming here directly from the UK, this exhibit, called “Dystopia”, will be accompanied by Martin Richardson, who worked with rock star David Bowie on a most significant piece of innovative work which will be featured in the exhibition.
— An International Film Festival with more than 90 award-winning digital short films from more than 30 countries will be on exhibit at the Titusville Playhouse. Curated and accompanied by Clifton Stewart, who brings both films and an international festival sensibility representing many cultures and points of view.
— Digital Artists from around Florida will display digital work on large screens. Several exhibiting artists will be on site to answer questions or intrigue festival goers with their concepts and processes.
— Hands-on interactive activities, such as a digital graffiti wall, special demonstrations by guest artists, international artist interactions, surprise street art and additional digital hands-on options will be offered.

INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS
The festival will feature two internationally-known artists from the United Kingdom, Martin Richardson, a professor holding the Chair in Modern Holography at DeMontfort University in Leicester, England and the International Film Festival curator, Clifton Stewart, a Senior Lecturer in Media Production at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. Richardson is regarded as an imaging pioneer. He has made holograms of many famous people, including film directors Martin Scorsese and Alan Parker as well as the fine artist Sir Peter Blake and writer Will Self to name but a few. His work with rock star David Bowie, for a project using 3-D promotional material for the album ‘Hours’, is well known and has been documented in Richardson’s book, ‘Spacebomb: Holograms and Lenticular 1984 – 2004’. Clifton Stewart curates the film festival like an art exhibition, sourcing the work, inviting film makers to participate and programming a wide and varied week of international short films. FLORIDA ARTISTS
The festival will highlight creative works by Florida artists at the intersection of art and technology and appeal to a wide range of audience members, from Generation X, Y and Z to engineers and other high-tech talent in Central Florida. Targeted to attract digital creators and technology explorers, as well as international visitors, teachers and their students, the festival hopes to help inspire youth in areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
An important piece is INSPIRE ALLEY, where students will have access to artists working in digital arenas. Pablo Remonsellez, Education & Community Arts Manager for Brevard Cultural Alliance, is working with Brevard Public Schools to accommodate groups of students for lectures and demonstrations delivered by the visiting artists.
